Etiquette Tips for Lakewood Real Estate Homebuyers

Preparing to buy a home on the Lakewood real estate market? Before you start your search, learn these etiquette tips for all homebuyers:

Be honest.
If you’re just looking at homes on the Lakewood real estate market to get an idea of what’s out there, then be upfront and tell your agent this. Agents juggle multiple clients at once, so they deserve to know who is serious about buying a house and who is still in the beginning stages of deciding whether or not to make the move.

Be polite.
During the home buying process, you’ll most likely visit a number of different homes listed on the Lakewood real estate market. When you visit each of these homes, remember the old rule, “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.” It’s not appropriate to comment on how much you dislike the seller’s taste in decorating, or how awful the home is compared to how it looked online. This shows your agent that you don’t trust or respect the work that he or she is doing.

Don’t look through the seller’s belongings.
When you’re invited into someone’s home for a walk-through, be courteous and don’t look through their personal belongings. Many buyers get nosey as they walk through someone’s home, and end up opening medicine cabinets, dresser drawers and nightstand trinkets. This is a major misstep for homebuyers on the Lakewood real estate market. It’s fine to look at closets or pantries to see how much space you’ll have if you buy the home, but don’t ever look through someone’s personal belongings just for the sake of doing so. Be patient.
Many Lakewood real estate homebuyers are so anxious to see new properties as they hit the market that they want to schedule showings as soon as possible. Although it’s great to be eager to find your new home, you should always respect the schedule of the seller if he or she is still living in the home. Try not to ask for appointments that are too early in the morning or too late at night, especially if the seller has a family at home.
